"The Queen found herself hanging on to her hat yesterday as blustery conditions at Royal Ascot threatened to send the headgear tumbling down the racecourse.
The creation by the milliner Rachel Trevor-Morgan was held in place by the Queen as she made her traditional entrance, with the Duke of Edinburgh, in a horse-drawn carriage past the grandstand. The Duchess of Cornwall travelled behind with the Prince of Wales but seemed to have no problem with her Philip Treacy hat.
Ladies' hats in general were a focus of attention as hundreds of racegoers packed the stands for the start of racing."
